City police today seized Rs 1.1 crore of 'black money' and arrested two men.
Commissioner's Task Force (South Zone) apprehended Moti Singh Rajpurohit and Anil Mandalik, a branch manager of a cooperative society here, after intercepting them as they were riding a two-wheeler with bags containing the cash at Shahinayathgunj here, police said.
They had no documents to explain the cash. They allegedly told police that it had been collected from one Soni Agarwal at Gulzar House, on the instructions of Heera Lal of Mumbai over phone.
The duo were on their way to deposit the amount in a benami account in the name of one Feroz Khan at a cooperative society in Begumbazar here, a senior official said.
Moti Singh admitted that he was working as a collection agent for Heera Lal Chowdary, who ran gold and mobile business at Javeribazar in Mumbai, additional deputy commissioner of police B Limba Reddy said.
"Heera Lal procures gold biscuits from Dubai and sends it to Hyderabad. Moti Singh collected the money from the customers (mostly bullion traders) without any bills and sent it to Heera Lal," Reddy said.
