The mishap occurred at around 11 PM last night.
Ten persons were travelling by the car when it fell into the canal and was swept away by its swirling waters, District Disaster Management Office here said today.
Eight persons out of the ten were rescued alive but two are missing, it said.
Disaster Management teams and police personnel are still scouring the canal in search of the two brothers.
The vehicle was going from Banfulpura in Haldwani to Nanakmatta in Udhamsingh Nagar district at the time of the accident.
Several places in Nainital district have been lashed by heavy rains since last evening with Chorgaliya receiving 153 MM of showers followed by Haldwani (130 MM), Nainital (83.82 MM) and Dhari (66.20 MM).
Meanwhile, the MeT department has issued an alert of heavy rains in six districts of Uttarakhand over the next 24 hours including Nainital, Dehradun, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Udhamsingh Nagar.
