The incident took place in a moving bus last evening and the policemen - a Head Constable and a Constable - were in an inebriated condition, Raigarh district Superintendent of Police Anand Chhabra said.

Given the seriousness of the incident, Head Constable Firoz Ali and Constable Jeevan Srivas were suspended with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against them, he said.

Ali and three other policemen were coming to Raigarh by the private bus after producing two prisoners in a court in Gharghoda town.

Eight female teachers boarded the bus at Gherwani village. As the bus left, the policemen started misbehaving with the teachers and outraged their modesty, according to a complaint lodged by them.

In the meantime, two policemen got down from the bus midway.

After the bus reached Raigarh, the teachers, along with their relatives and co-passengers lodged a written complaint.
