Two contractual labourers were killed by unidentified assailants in the premises of a private steel and power unit at Thelkuli in Odisha's Sambalpur district today, the police said.
The deceased, identified as Lalit Mirdha (28) of village Dudhiamal and Suru alias Seluan Dharua (32) of village Sadapali in the district, were staying in a room in the labour hutment inside plant premises, they said.
A security personnel of the plant rushed to the spot after hearing noise and found the duo in a pool of blood in their room, said Liasoning Officer of the plant, Pramod Patra.
"Subsequently, the police was informed about the incident and the two were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. However, we came to know later on that both of them succumbed to their injuries," said Patra.
The Police suspect that internal dispute could be the reason behind the incident. However, the Police were investigating all possible angles.
"The plant authority informed us about the incident. The reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy and a case under section 302 of IPC has been lodged," said Inspector In-charge of Thelkuli police station, Rajanikanta Samal.
