Two convicts freed from jail for good conduct

After serving about 15 years in the jail, two people sentenced to life imprisonment were today freed in premature for their good activities and conduct.
G Arjuna (55) and Purna Chandra Sethi (56), were released from the jail on the basis of an order of the state government. Native of Ramchandrapur near Hinjili, Sethi was awarded life sentence since 1997 on charge of murder, while Arjuna of Suranagi village in Ganjam district was jailed since 1999 on similar charge.
"We are very happy as freed from the jail. We will maintain normal lives in the villages after returning from here," they said after being released.
"I will do farming in the village," said Arjuna, while Sethi, a washerman said he would continue to do his parental occupation.
The jail authorities handed over Rs 3,000 each to them from Prisoners' Welfare Fund (PWF) at the time of their release, besides the passbooks where each of them had deposits over Rs 50,000 as their wages towards their work inside the prison.
"The funds generated in side the jail will be helpful for us to carry out occupations," they said.
The jail authorities had recommended their names for the premature release to the state government through the district administration after observing their behaviour and discipline during their stay inside the prison.
"The premature sentence review committee had recommended for their early release," R N Roul, the jailor, said.
