A two-day bus strike called by a section of transport operator associations in West Bengal from February 1 demanding fare hike was withdrawn following their meeting with the state transport minister today.
A two-member committee has been formed to look into the demands of the transport operators, a transport department official said here.
Transport department secretary N S Nigam will head the two-member committee and commissioner of the department Biswajit Dutta will be the member.
A high-level meeting was held today by Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari and principal secretary (transport) Alapan Bandopadhyay with the operators associations following which the decision was taken to withdraw the strike.
Joint Council of Bus Syndicates general secretary Tapan Banerjee said the strike was called off following assurance by the transport minister to look into the demands of the operators sympathetically.
The operators have been demanding a upward revision of fares owing to high fuel price, high insurance rates owing to GST and other issues like police harassment, Banerjee said.
