Two-day State Senior Athletic meet from May 23 here

: About 1,200 athletes, including 350 women, would participate in the 87th State Senior Athletic Meet beginning here on May 23, which will also be selection trials for for the National Level Athletic Meet at Lucknow from June five.
Dr L P Thangavelu, President of Coimbatore District Athletic Association told reporters here today that International athletes Gayathri, Hemashiri, Archama, Salaudeen and Nationas Girish, Beethoivan, Shipani, Siva Anbarasi, Padmavathy will be seen in action during the two-day meet, comprising 100m, 200m, 500m, 1,000m sprint and 20 km walk, besides high jump and long jump events.
Being the selection trials for the National meet, the winners at Lucknow would be picked to represent India in the forthcoming Common Wealth Games, he said.

Athletes from St. Joseph Sports Academy, teams from Police department, Southern Railway, Income Tax department, LIC, Indian Bank and different associations and clubs have registered their names, Thangavelu said.
