Two detainees escape from lockup; 4 policemen suspended
Press Trust of India Srinagar Two persons, accused in a burglary case, escaped from the lock up of a police station in downtown city, prompting department to suspend four police officials for "gross negligence".
"Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Kulgam district and Tariq Ahmad Mathanji of Srinagar fled from custody in police station M R Gunj during the intervening night of March 14-15," a police spokesman said.
He said the duo was taken into custody by police as they were allegedly involved in a case related to burglary.
A fresh FIR has been registered against them and a massive hunt launched to nab them, the spokesman said.
Taking serious note of the incident, the spokesman said four officials of police station M R Gunj were placed under suspension for their "gross negligence".
