Two members of an alleged fake currency circulation racket have been arrested and counterfeit notes of face value Rs 2 lakh routed through Malda recovered from them, police said today.
Vikas Kashyap, kingpin of the racket, and his associate Rohit Saxena were caught by a Crime Branch team, as they settled a deal with a decoy customer at Adarsh Mohalla in Maujpur, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (crime) of Police.
The 400 fine quality fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of denomination Rs 500 recovered from them were routed from Malda in West Bengal, he said.
Kashyap said during interrogation he was introduced to FICN circulation by Mohammad Zafar and Mohammad Abutala whom he had met through Prem Chand, the kingpin of Delhi-NCR of the racket, arrested earlier by Special Cell.
Efforts are being made to trace absconding members of the racket involved in circulation of FICN in Delhi, NCR and other parts of the country, the officer added.
