The incident took place on June 2. The two sailors had started on June 1 from Philippines to the Gangavaram port. On June 2, one of the sailors named Jamsolo opened the coal cabin and entered to ascertain the coal heat.
He died after inhaling poisonous gases, while another sailor, Gergard, died trying to save Jamsolo, a Gangavaram port statement issued this evening said.
The cargo ship team had kept their bodies frozen till they reached the port.
The vessel's agent had informed the authorities concerned including the police of the incident before arriving at the port.
