Rambir Jhakar and Nitin Nagpal, both natives of Haryana, were also awarded life imprisonment for seriously injuring four police personnel during the incident by the court, which said the sentence will run one after the other.
The court also awarded seven-year imprisonment to the victim's relative Sidharth Bansal for hatching the conspiracy of robbery and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.
Additional Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna handed down the sentence to Jhakar and Nagpal, who had on June 23, 2005 entered the Ashok Vihar situated house of Giriraj Kishore on the pretext of delivering a gift.
"The conduct of both the convicts demonstrates that they had no value for human life and only for the purposes of gain they adopted cruel means in executing their ill designs," the court said.
According to prosecution, the duo had assaulted Kishore and while Nagpal fired at him, Jhakar attacked him with a knife and also threatened his wife and daughter-in-law and searched the house.
In the meanwhile, a PCR van reached the spot and also intimated the patrol party. After constant ringing of the door bell, the convicts tried to escape but were surrounded by police team.

The court noted that they fired indiscriminately at the police officials due to which four police officers namely Inspector Kharak Singh, ASI Harish Chand and constables Dharam Pal and Ravinder got permanent physical injuries so much so that bullet is still lying in the thigh of Inspector Kharak Singh and in the back side of heart of ASI Harish.
The kidney of Constable Ravinder had to be removed due to injuries caused by convicts.
The police, however, managed to nab them and upon interrogation, and they revealed that they had acted at the behest of Bansal, who turned out to be the relative of the victims.
In an extensive order, the court sentenced Nagpal and Jhakar to life imprisonment for murder and attempt to murder, ten years in jail for using weapons, seven years in jail for attempt to commit robbery, two years for causing hurt to a public servant and one years for assaulting them.
The court mentioned that the sentence awarded for attempt to murder and obstructing police officials will run concurrently while the sentence for murder, attempt to robbery and that under the Arms Act will run one after the other.
They have also been slapped with a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh each.
