Two held for trying to cross over to B'desh with narcotics

Two persons were held with narcotics along West Bengal's international border with Bangladesh under the Noorpur border outpost area in Malda district today evening, the Border Security Force (BSF) said.
According to a release issued by the BSF, two persons - Mohammed Sirajuddin Sheikh (26) and Mohammed Nasiruddin Sheikh (35) - were caught red handed while trying to cross the border and enter Bangladesh.
Besides, 950 gm of narcotics in two plastic packets were seized along with cash in Indian currency amounting to Rs 9,930 and two mobile phones from the duo, BSF Deputy Inspector General RPS Jaswal was quoted as saying in the release.
Acting on a tip off regarding smugglers trying to carry a consignment of narcotics from India to Bangladesh near Shiv Mandir near Ahiron Bridge on National Highway 34, a BSF special patrolling party apprehended the duo and seized the substance.
Both accused, residents of the district, have been handed over to the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), Kolkata for further investigations into the matter, it said.
This year, so far, the BSF South Bengal Frontier has seized 45.41 kg of narcotics and apprehended eight smugglers, the release added.
