Two held with 2.53 lakh fake currency notes in Poonch

Two persons were arrested today and fake currency notes having face value of Rs 2.53 lakh recovered from them in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
On a specific information, Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operation group (SoG) intercepted two persons at a checkpoint for frisking at the bus stand in Surankote town in the district, a senior Police officer said.
While conducting their checking, two persons tried to flee from spot but were apprehended, he said, adding that police then recovered fake Indian currency notes having face value of Rs 2.53 lakh and 170 intoxicated capsules from their possession.
On questioning, they revealed their identities as Tariq Hussain Khan (35) and Jhangir Hussain (30), both belonging to Surakote, he said.
A case has been registered against the accused persons at Police Station Surankote.
This is probably the first case of recovery of fake Indian currency notes in this border district, post demonetisation.
