Two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs), allegedly planted by Naxals, were recovered today from an under-construction site in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker district, police said.
Acting on a tip off, a joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and district force unearthed the explosives from an under construction anicut (barrier) between Markanar and Koyalibeda, Kanker Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayant Vaishnav told PTI.
The explosives were weighed 5 kgs each, he added.
"Based on a specific input that Naxals had allegedly planted IEDs at the under-construction anicut on Mendki river under Koyalibeda police station limits, security forces were mobilised towards the place.
On reaching there, security forces spottedan IED, kept in a steel container, under a dump of gravel and another around 200 meters away from that dump, averting a major mishap", the DSP said.
The explosives were allegedly planted to harm security personnel involved in ensuring security to the construction works, he said, adding the explosiveswere immediately destroyed by the bomb disposal squad.
