Nearly 100 students had filed a complaint before the Craftsman Training Minister Vishwajit Rane against ITI instructor Roque Coelho and group instructor Vishnu Naik.
According to the complaint, Coelho was imposing fine of Rs 10 or Rs 20 on students on various counts like reporting late to their classes, not carrying ID cards, not wearing uniform, incomplete class work etc, and used to beat them up. Naik allegedly supported his colleague.
Coelho and Naik were placed under suspension by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
"Following complaints from students, the department director Alexio Da Costa was asked to visit the institute and conduct a preliminary inquiry during which students complained of harassment, abuse, and extortion by Coelho. He was supported by Naik, who was actively involved in the crime. The students said that their sufferings are since the last one year," Rane told PTI.
He said the inquiry found the students' allegations to be prima facie true.
