Two killed in rain-related incidents in UP

Two persons were killed in Ballia district as strong winds and thundershowers hit several parts of Uttar Pradesh, police said today.
25-year-old Shribhagwahan Chauhan, died when a tree fell on him in Shahadwar area while another person Ramashanker Pandey (60) was killed after being hit by lightning in Balipur in Ballia district yesterday, police said.
Lakhimpur was the worst affected city where strong winds followed by heavy showers disrupted normal life for over an hour. Heavy storm uprooted a number of trees and electricity poles. Boundary walls at several places were damaged, they said.
Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) UPPCL, Lakhimpur, Rahul Sharma said that power supply in half of Lakhimpur city including officers' colony, Avas Vikas, Bahadurnagar, Mahrajnagar, Sikatiha, Kashinagar had been badly affected due to heavy storms which damaged supply lines and transformers.
"It will take almost a day to restore power supply," he said.
As the power supply failed, the city people also faced water supply crisis.
Heavy winds and hailstorm were reported from Bijuva, Nighasan, Dhaurehra, Pallia and some other remote areas. Severe damage to mango crops was reported.
