Two men have been arrested by customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country Rs 22.5 lakh worth gold by concealing it in travel cooker, hand mixer and emergency light being carried by them at the Delhi airport, according to an official statement issued Wednesday.
A man was intercepted by the customs officials after his arrival from Dubai on Monday, it said.
On detailed examination of his baggages and personal search, the officials recovered pieces of gold, which were coated with silver colour to dodge the authorities, concealed inside travel cooker, hand mixer and emergency light being carried by them, the statement said.
The gold, total weighing 738 grams and valued at Rs 22.51 lakh, has been seized, it said.
Immediate follow-up action led to another man, a native of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, who was to receive the gold from the passenger, the Customs department said in the statement.
