The mother of the girls, Sakshi (5) and Sapna (3), had gone out for some work leaving the sisters sleeping at their house yesterday when the incident occurred, Kanpur Rural police said.
Her mother and neighbour made efforts but could not save the girls.
Villagers informed the fire brigade about the incident following which firefighters reached the spot and controlled the fire.
Administration has provided financial help to the family, he said adding bodies have been sent for postmortem and police is trying to find out the cause behind the fire.
