Two persons were arrested for allegedly gangraping a 21-year-old married woman for nine days after abducting her from Bada Karanjasara village in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said today.
Tukuna Behera (27) of Badakhandi and Tabahaq Mohammad (37) of Kabisurya Nagara were arrested yesterday. A medical examination of the victim has been conducted, said inspector in charge of Purushottampur Police Station B K Sahu.
The victim was allegedly abducted by the accused from her village on September 10 when she was going to village pond to take bath. Her father-in-law had informed the police about her disappearance the next day when he could not locate her after a search. The woman has an 18-month-old son and her husband was working in Kerala, he said.
Police said after kidnapping her, the accused duo kept her in a room of a privately-run school and allegedly raped her before she managed to escape from the place on Friday. She informed the police about the incident, police said.
"We have registered a case against the duo under various sections of the IPC for offences including kidnapping and rape. We have also immediately arrested the accused duo," said Sahu.
In another incident, Kodala police in the district arrested a 27-year-old man for raping a 20-year-old girl of Dabhabania village on Friday, said inspector in-charge, Kodala police station S K Senapati.
The accused, identified as Samarendra Sabara of Kasipada village in Khurda district had allegedly established physical relations with the girl after promising to marry her.
The victim is eight months pregnant. She lodged FIR before the police when the accused refused to marry her, police said.
