The incident took place at Varnama village on the city outskirts when all the four prisoners inside the car made an attempt to escape but only two of them--Brij Bhusan Butu Mithila Das Pande and Santoksingh Amlasingh-- managed to run away from the custody, police said.
All the four prisoners were lodged in the central jail at Bharuch, about 90 kms from here. They were brought to a court here in a case of loot registered against them with the police station at Varnama.
After the case was committed in Vadodara, they were being taken back to Bharuch by an escort comprising three police constables and a head police constable when they assaulted the driver forcing him to stop the car, police said.
A case was registered with the police at Varnama and searches have been launched to nab the escaped prisoners.
