Two school girls drown in Kanpur

Two school girls drowned in Panki canal here while they were playing outside their house, police said today.
Nine-year-old Ankita and Kiran, both Class II students, were playing outside their house yesterday. When they did not return till evening their parents started searching them, police said.
After sometime, they spotted slippers floating in the nearby Panki canal which raised doubt in their minds. Few locals jumped in the canal to look for them and their bodies were recovered, said police.
According to police, the girls would have fallen into the canal while they were playing nearby.
When the locals created a furore, police assured them of apt compensation from the government. Police is further investigating the case, they said.
