Two teenage boys died of asphyxiation apparently after inhaling toxic fumes while processing a chemical used for dyeing cloth, said police.
Residents of Jalaram society in Godadara area of city saw smoke emanating from a small house in their neighbourhood late last night and informed the Limbayat police about it.
"When we entered the house, we found three youngsters lying there unconscious. Later, two of them were declared dead by doctors, while one is undergoing treatment at a hospital," Limbayat police station inspector D D Damor said.
The deceased were identified as Komal Rabari (18) and Raghuraj Moriya (16). Their friend Raju Moriya (22) has been admitted to hospital, said police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio had rented the house to dye cloth by using gas stove, chemicals and colour dyes, Damor said.
"We found that they had put some liquid dye in a pot and started boiling it on gas stove. Since there was no ventilation in the house, the toxic fumes of that chemical spread in the house, which resulted in the death of the two teenagers," he said.
"We have lodged a case of accidental death and started further investigation," he added.
