In a major embarrassment for Haryana Police, its two top IPS officers in Gurgaon were at war today, with Joint Commissioner Bharti Arora accusing Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk of "falsely implicating" a family in a rape case and threatening herself, a charge denied by him.
A high-level probe by Director General (Crime) was ordered tonight into the matter which played out in the media besides reaching the state police chief Y P Singhal.
"Haryana government has asked K P Singh, DG Crime, to inquire into the allegations of Commissioner Police and Joint Commissioner Police Gurgaon and also to conduct all future investigations into all related four versions," said an official release issued in Chandigarh late at night.
Besides the versions of Virk and Arora, Singh will probe the versions of the victim and the accused.
Arora has levelled various serious charges against Virk, accusing him of slapping different charges against a family to "falsely implicate" them in a rape case. She has demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
"When I started investigation into the rape case, I realised that the Commissioner of Police has falsely implicated an entire family in the case. I objected and told him 'sir, this is wrong'," the Jt CP said.

She alleged that Virk wanted Section 307 (attempt to murder charge) to be slapped against the family of a rape accused.
Arora claimed that she had objected to this by saying that it was a "serious offence" and why he "deliberately wanted to implicate them".
"Then he started torturing me mentally and threatened me and said I leave the probe into the case otherwise I will be harmed," she alleged, adding, "I said, I am absolutely clean, my conscience is clear. I fear none."
She has claimed that the woman, who has filed the case, had filed three other rape cases on previous occasions also.
In her letter sent to the DGP, Arora has alleged that Virk was mentally torturing her over the inquiry and supervision of files in the rape case.
"..I want a CBI inquiry in the entire matter so that facts are unearthed. Otherwise there is no reason how an entire family has been falsely implicated, that too by a woman, who has got three different rape cases registered...," she has said.
In his initial reaction, Virk said, "These allegations are wrong... What can I say if someone is saying something?"
Later in the evening, he issued a statement saying "the allegations leveled against me by Smt Bharti Arora for favoring a rape case victim are absolutely false, baseless and motivated with an intention to malign my reputation.
