The taxi coming from Lachung in North Sikkim with 10 students from Chhatisgarh and four tourists from West Bengal besides the driver, veered off the road at 4th Mile near Lower Manshila, 8km from the district headquarters of Mangan at 8:30 pm yesterday, the sources said.
As the taxi fell the passengers and the driver were thrown out, they said.
Local people, the Mangan police and the ITBP personnel rescued the passengers and the driver.
The driver also fractured his hand, they said.
They were initially taken to the Dikchu primary health centre and Mangan district hospital from where they were referred to the private Central Manipal Hospital at Tadong here in the state capital.
The police said that the driver was on a high when the accident occurred and had a history of drug addiction and had been in another accident in the past.
