The victims have been identified as Sub-Inspector Sri Ram and head constable Ranbir Singh.
The incident was reported around 12.30 PM when the two victims were deployed near an intersection in Jail Road to prosecute traffic violators and tracked a WagonR car that was moving around five times higher than the permissible limit at that stretch, said a senior police official.
When the driver, identified as one Prashant Kumar, saw the officials trying to flag him down, he allegedly speeded up trying to race ahead. He allegedly knocked down the officials before they could move out of his way, said the official.
Kumar has been booked for attempt to murder apart from section 279 (rash driving) of IPC and he was arrested immediately, said the official.
