A lower court judge in Tripura was punished for allegedly appearing in court in an inebriated condition and wearing indecent dress, while another was asked to go on compulsory retirement after he was found "cheating" in an examination.
A notification issued on October 28 by the state law department said Judge Jesthamani Murasingh was punished for appearing at court premises in Kailashahar in Unakoti district recently in a drunken condition and misbehaving with a civil and assistant session's judge of a Tripura judicial district.
He also pushed around some furniture during the incident and was improperly dressed at the time, it said.
Two of his salary increments for the next two years have been withheld without cumulative effect. Murasingh was also punished during his earlier posting as judge of family court of Udaipur in south Tripura.
The law department in another notification on the same day said that the district legal services authority secretary in Gomati judicial district, Prakash Chandra Biswas, was suspended recently after he was caught copying in the Ph.D. course work examination.
Tripura High Court on September 23 last had recommended penal measure against Biswas.
"Following an inquiry, Biswas was asked to go on compulsory retirement from service with immediate effect," the notification said.
The notification, issued by law secretary Data Mohan Jamatia, said the actions against the two judicial service officers were taken on the direction of Tripura HC.
