Two undertrial prisoners gave the slip to the police personnel escorting them while returning from a court hearing in the district, police said today.
The incident occurred last night at Dehgaon village, located around 25 km from here.
Police today recovered an SUV used by the duo to escape, from forest in neighbouring Sagore village.
"We have recovered the SUV used by the prisoners to escape yesterday night," Sub Divisional Officer (Police), Gairatganj, Mangal Singh Thakre said.
According to police, Ankit Tiwari and Govind Gorkhi were returning to the Bhopal Central Jail in a passenger bus along with the four police personnel after attending a court hearing in Sagar district headquarters.
"The undertrials, who were handcuffed, excused themselves under the pretext of attending a nature's call and as soon as they got down from the bus they pushed the cops aside and fled in the SUV already waiting for them at the spot," Thakre said.
A search is underway for them across Raisen, Vidisha, Sagar, Narsinghpur and Bhopal districts.
