Two wanted women Maoists carrying Rs 2 lakh reward each on their heads today surrendered before the police.
The two were trying to join the social mainstream since March 8 in the aftermath of killing of an ultra during a gun-battle with police in a forest in Kalahandi district, Inspector General of Police (south-western) Y K Jethwa said.
Active since 2006, the two were CPI(Maoists) area committee members (ACM) of Koilihitara area committee of Moinpur-Nuapada division of CPI(Maoists), Jethwa said.
They hailed from Bijepur in Chhattisgarh and were also members of the protection team for central committee member Murali, Jethwa said.
He claimed that the two Maoists surrendered as they were disillusioned for they could not achieve anything for their family or society by being in the camps dominated by Andhra cadres. Besides, they were subjected to exploitation, Jethwa quoted them as saying.
Meanwhile, a Maoist was killed and his body seized after a fierce gun-battle with police during an anti-naxal operation by security personnel near Godlajharan on the foothills of Churadangar in Golamunda block in the district.
