Two women, a teacher and her mother, were beaten-up and their vehicle was set on fire this evening near Asanpur village in Girat following a heated exchange of words between them and villagers, police said.
The women were returning home to Agarpara in a car after visiting a relative. When they asked for directions from locals, the villagers suspected them as child-lifters due to some miscommunication, a police officer said.

On getting infromation about the incident, officials of Balagarh Police Station reached the spot and rescued the women.
"They were initially taken to a primary health centre in Girat and later shifted to a nursing home at Kalyani in Nadia district," Barun Mitra officer-in-charge of Balagarh police station said.
"We have detained four persons in connection with the incident," the officer said.
