The body of an Indian technician has been lying at a mortuary here for nearly two years as his family members refused to claim his body.
Bharat Kumar Behra died of cardiac arrest in June 2012 at the age of 37 but it wasn't until October 2013 when the Indian Embassy identified his body and informed his family in Orissa.
Behra worked as a technician in Abu Dhabi.
He was admitted to a hospital by police officials after he collapsed on a roadside, Gulf News reported yesterday.
An embassy official said Behra was initially reported missing by his family.
"We had been following up the case with local authorities, but could not trace his whereabouts until October last year," the official was quoted as saying in the report.
Since then the Indian Embassy has been trying to repatriate Behra's remains.

"We have contacted the family several times. But they are neither willing to accept the body nor give us permission to cremate it," said the embassy official handling the case.
He said the family is living in denial and are refusing to believe that Behra is dead, the report said.
Efforts to bring the family to Abu Dhabi to identify the body has drawn a naught.
