"Police solved the blind murder case of Ghulam Mohammad Tantary, who was killed on Saturday night," a police spokesman said.
The spokesman said a special investigation team was formed and two suspects -- Khurshid Ahmad Malla and Zahid Ahmad Katroo -- were picked up for questioning.
"During questioning, it come to fore that the family of Khurshid Ahmad Malla was interested in marriage with a family member of Tantary, which was not accepted by the latter," the spokesman said.
"On Saturday evening, when Tantary was about to enter his house, Khurshid attacked with a sharp edged weapon on his neck, while Zahid assisted him. Both the accused fled from the spot after locals raised hue and cry," the spokesman said.
Tantray breathed his last while he was being shifted to hospital.
"The weapon of the offence was seized from the scene of crime and preliminary investigation reveals that it was a planned murder," he added.
