Two youths who allegedly stole over 100 two-wheelers from East and North-East Delhi to lead a luxurious life, have been arrested by the police.
The accused have been identified as Danish alias Raja (24) and Sanjay alias Sanju alias Nepali (19). Police claimed to have worked out 66 cases of motor vehicle theft and recovered 19 vehicles on their instance.
Acting on a tip off received by staff of North-East district regarding two auto lifters who stole motorcycles and sold them in Meerut and Sambhal, a trap was laid and the team apprehended two persons who came on a motorcycle at DTC Bus Depot in Seemapuri on Sunday.
Upon enquiry, the duo mislead the team about their identity and could not produce any document regarding the ownership of their motorcycle. On sustained interrogation, both of them were identified as Danish and Sanjay.
"On their instance, the team recovered six stolen scooties and three stolen motorcycles. In their disclosure statement, they revealed that they both stole more than 100 bikes/motorcycles from the area of East and North-East district and sold these in Meerut and Sambhal," said DCP (North-East) Veenu Bansal.
On Monday, both the accused were produced before a local court which remanded them in four days police custody (PC). During PC, the team recovered three more scooties and seven more motorcycles from different places.
