U'khand CM discusses Lokayukta Act with Sibal

As Uttarakhand government takes a final call on implementing the Lokayukta Act passed by the previous BJP government, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today discussed the issue with Union Law Minister Kapil Sibal.
"We are studying all existing Lokayukta laws across the country. We are contemplating to bring stronger bill compared to what BJP-ruled states have. On November 7, I will review it with my MLAs, MPs and supporting parties," Bahuguna told reporters here after meeting Sibal.
President Pranab Mukherjee has already given assent to the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill.
Bahuguna had recently said that the state government has the option of changing the law or bringing a new one.

"Some provisions of the law are unconstitutional. Even the judiciary has been brought under the ambit of the bill," he had said.
The Bill, brought by the previous BJP government in 2011, will bring the Chief Minister, ministers, MLAs and government servants, including IAS and IPS officers, under the ambit of the Lokayukta.
Former chief ministers, former ministers and retired officers will also be covered by the new law which carries a provision of punishment up to life imprisonment.
BJP has threatened to hit the streets in Uttarakhand if the Lokayukta Act is not implemented in the state in the form in which it has been ratified by the President.
