Inaugurating the statue at Haridwar's Mela Bhawan on the bank of the Ganga river yesterday, he said, the legendary poet's statue will give direction in further development of the state's Ganga-Jamuni culture.
It is a privilege for Uttarakhand that the statue has been installed in the holy city of Haridwar. Thiruvalluvar's teachings are relevant till this day. Following it would help us make the society better.
"It will also help in union of north and south Indian culture will enrich the state's culture," the Chief Minister was quoted as saying in the release.
In July this year, then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention for installation of the statue in Haridwar, saying reports about it lying unattended there due to local protests has caused outrage in Tamil Nadu.
In an initiative to introduce Northern India to the great literary legacy of the Tamil poet, former BJP MP Tarun Vijay had decided to bring his 12-foot statue to Haridwar and install it in the city.
