U'khand Cong seeks passage of legislation on Panchayati Raj

The ruling Congress in Uttarakhand today demanded passage of a legislation on Panchayati Raj in the state assembly and a resolution on sustainable Himalayan development during its forthcoming session beginning at Gairsain on October 2.
Putting forward the two demands before Chief Minister Harish Rawat, PCC president Kishor Upadhyay who led a delegation to meet him said it was high time for aPanchayati Raj Act in Uttarakhand as it completes 15 years of its existence on October 9 this year.
A Panchayati Raj Act will strengthen the panchayat bodies in the state while passage of a resolution on sustainable Himalayan development will ensure development of the hill states and conservation of Himalayan ecology, he said.
