A decision to this effect was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, official sources said here today.
The move will help the state government generate a revenue of Rs 70-90 crore per annum, they said.
The Cabinet also revised the registration fee on motor vehicles costing up to Rs 10 lakh, hiking it from 2.5 per cent to 4 per cent, they said.
The registration fee on motor vehicles costing more than Rs 10 lakh has been revised to 5 per cent, they said.
The cabinet also revised the tax on motor vehicles under Uttarakhand Motor Vehicles Tax (amendment) Ordinance, they said.
The tax per annum on motorcycles and trailers has been revised to Rs 200 whereas that on vehicles weighing less than 1,000-kg to Rs 1000.
Tax on vehicles weighing more than 1000-kg and less than 5000-kg has been revised to Rs 2,000 whereas vehicles weighing more than 5,000-kg will now have to pay Rs 4,000 as tax per annum, they said.
