Air India and Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited (PHHL) have pressed into service additional resources to help in search, rescue and evacuation operations in the flood-hit Uttarakhand.
While PHHL has deployed three helicopters in rescue operation, Air India has started operating additional flights from Dehradun to bring back those stranded and is offering concessional fares to the affected people.
Air India top brass, including CMD Rohit Nandan, have donated a day's salary for the aid of the affected people and appealed to all other staffers to make similar contribution, airline sources said.
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has expressed his deep sorrow at the huge loss of lives in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
He has also directed Air India and PHHL to render all assistance to Uttarakhand government and deploy additional resources in the search and rescue operations going on in the flood-affected areas in coordination with the state administration.
