U'khand Governor asks devotees to help keep Ganga clean

Uttarakhand Governor Krishna Kant Paul today greeted devotees converging on the banks of Ganga river in Haridwar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and sought their co-operation in keeping the river clean describing it as everyone's collective and moral responsibility.
"Ganga whose sacred waters are believed to purge us of our sins has for ages been a symbol of our spiritual strength, faith and cultural prosperity.
"Maintaining the river's purity and keeping its flow uninterrupted is our moral and collective responsibility. I hope every devotee coming for a holy dip in the river will also help keep it clean by not littering things around," Paul said in a message today.

The unique convergence of the faithful from diverse backgrounds for a bath in the sacred river on this auspicious occasion will pave the way for world peace, he said.
Nearly eight lakh people took a dip in the Ganga on the first snan (holy bath) of Ardhakumbh on the occasion of Makar Sankranti today.
