Abdullah Sultan Al-Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Industry in the Ministry of Economy, said here yesterday that India initiated its investigation in April into imports of 'not alloyed ingots of unwrought aluminium' after Indian producers complained of sustaining loses due to the increased import of cheap aluminium ingots.
"The anti-dumping department in the Ministry provided a number of technical and legal memorandum and supporting evidence to prove that the claims by Indian manufacturers' do not adhere to legal requirements by the World Trade Organisation Agreement on Safeguards," he said.
Earlier this year, the ministry was able to bring to end similar investigations in Taiwan and Egypt, he added.
"In April, the Taiwanese authorities ended a safeguard duty investigation into high density polyethylene (HDPE) imports from the UAE. In July, the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Egypt ended an investigation into Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from the UAE," Al-Shamsi said.
Al-Shamsi stressed government's keenness to promote the export of UAE's indigenous products in regional and global markets while addressing challenges such as the anti-dumping investigations in certain countries.
