Smrutirani says there are seven other students from the neighbourhood who walk with her to the nearby Aditya Birla Public School (ABPS).
Kamalini Naik, her mother is a widow who earns Rs 2,500 a month, working in a Government School on a temporary basis says "I want to educate her properly. My desire is to see her become a doctor or an engineer".
She said that her daughter enjoyed ABPS, noted not only for imparting education but for various activities aimed at overall development of children such as dancing and singing.
On the initiatives of Utkal Aluminium International Ltd (UAIL) in promoting education in Rayagada district, CEO of UAIL Rajesh Jha says, "Education is the backbone of every society. At Rayagada, we have taken many initiatives to educate children at pre-school, primary and secondary stages. We are sparking the desire to learn among adults as well. We, as a Corporate, believe in giving back to society and children here are the future of tomorrow".
