"Besides Marathi, Bengali theatre and films are also very popular and the same trend should be continued and this can happen only by the citizens patronising them," he said while inaugurating the MIFTA film and theater festival at Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium here.
On the occasion Uddhav said Shiv Sena was planning to set up a museum on the history of Marathi theatre and cinema and sought assistance from the artists both from the fields.
"MIFTA and other related projects and activities will go a long way in promoting the Marathi art and theatre," he told the audience.
Marathi International Film and Theatre Awards (MIFTA) is the joint endeavour of filmmaker and actor Mahesh Manjarekar - owner of Ashwami Films, and Abhijeet Patil, Chairman of Raja Rani Travels.
On Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh's comment on the place of origin of Thackerays, Uddhav said, "It would be worthless to give Singh a reply".
Many artists from the world of Marathi theatre and cinema, including Mahesh Manjrekar, and local politicians were present on the occasion.
Ddhav told reporters that he was working towards compilation of famous cartoons drawn by his father Bal Thackeray.
