Setting aside their political difference for a while, ruling Congress-led UDF and the opposition LDF in Kerala today made a scathing attack on Narendra Modi government at the Centre over hike in rail fare as the assembly passed a resolution demanding its roll back.
The issue was debated by the assembly and adopted a unanimous resolution urging the Centre to roll back the increase arguing it had made lives of masses miserable by paving way for unprecedented price rise.
Drawing the House's attention to the topic for a special debate, former Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran (CPI) said the impact of the hike in passenger fare and freight rates would be all the more severe on a consumer state like Kerala.
The resolution was later unanimously adopted as a motion by the House with the treasury benches broadly agreeing that the hike would adversely affect the people.
Winding up the discussion, Electricity Minister Aryadan Muhammad wanted the Centre to have a re-look at the hike in view of its impact on the people.
