UDF workers took out marches and wore black badges as part of the protest.
The ruling CPI(M) said it would organise 'evening dharnas' at 2,000 places across the state on June 2.
The protests will be held from 4 PM in public places in panchayats, municipalities and corporation areas, CPI(M) state secretariat said in a press release.
The new rules were part of the Centre's move to "implement the RSS agenda", it alleged.
The Centre's new law was against the Constitution, he told reporters at Kannur.
