Insurgent outfit United Democratic Liberation Army (UDLA) has accused the Assam government of not taking any positive steps after the unilateral ceasefire.
UDLA had announced the unilateral ceasefire on February 20.
The outfit's spokesman Rohit Kumar Reang said today it has not deposited its weapons and cadre list till date as the state government has allegedly not taken any appropriate steps after the ceasefire announcement.
Its self-styled general secretary Sishumoni Reang and now its chief had while announcing the ceasefire said the weapons would be surrendered within two months, he added.
The UDLA former chief Dhanyaram Reang is in police custody.
Hailakandi District Superintendent of Police Brojenjit Sinha said though UDLA had been inactive for a few days after announcing the ceasefire, they later sent extortion notes to some people in Karimganj and Hailakandi districts.
If the underground group continues its extortion drive, the police will have to take necessary steps against UDLA, which is mainly active in Hailakandi district, he said.
Official sources too confirmed that the outfit has not surrendered its arms to the government.
