The decision to this effect was taken at the party's central executive committee meeting held at the residence of Leader of Opposition Don Kupar Roy.
The UDP had proposed the name of the party working president, Paul Lyngdoh, who is also a legislator from West Shillong Assembly constituency to fight against the Congress candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He, however, said "But, we are waiting for the consensus from all non-congress political parties before making the official announcement."
Lanong informed that the matter is still in the negotiating stage with the other two regional parties - the HSPDP and the KHNAM.
"We have recently met the leaders of the two regional political parties to negotiate with them on the possibilities of having a common candidate," Lanong said.
