UDP seeks PM's intervention for more cash ahead of Christmas
Press Trust of India Shillong Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) in Meghalaya today sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention to ease dispensing cash from banks and increase withdrawal limit in the state ahead of Christmas festival.
The party has sought the prime minister's intervention in view of the fact that a large chunk of rural population in the state, which has about three million population, are yet to have bank accounts.
"The present strictures put forth by your government needs to be relaxed in a manner that would ease the dispensation of cash from banks and also an increase in withdrawal limits," UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said in a letter faxed to the PMO.
"We request you to kindly intervene at this juncture on account of the festive season that is being widely celebrated and more so for Christian populated state," it said.
