A Uganda military spokesman says six terror suspects were arrested over the weekend in a raid on an al-Shabab cell that was apparently plotting an attack in this East African country.
Lt Col Paddy Ankunda said today that explosives were seized from the suspects, all of whom are of Somali origin. He said they are under interrogation and more arrests are likely. The US Embassy in Uganda said today the terror threat had been "effectively countered" after warning US citizens on Saturday to stay at home amid an operation to foil a terror plot.
Uganda, which has troops fighting al-Shabab in Somalia, has been on high alert amid concerns the al-Qaida-linked militants are plotting an attack similar to the assault on a mall in Kenya a year ago.
