Announcing this today, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir Abdul Wahid said under the scheme, students who secure admission in a recognised institute of higher learning, will be provided scholarship to cover tuition and hostel fees, cost of books and other incidental charges.

The decision to this effect was taken on the basis of recommendations of the Expert Group of the Department of Higher Education in the Union HRD Ministry, Wahid said.

He said the Expert Group is implementing a special scholarship scheme for the students of Jammu and Kashmir.

"The main objective of the scheme is to encourage students to pursue higher studies in institutions of higher learning located outside the state," he said.

Wahid said during the Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting held on August 23, it was decided that these students may be accommodated by creating two seats under supernumerary quota across the institutions.

"The matter was taken up by the UGC in its meeting on September 6 and after due deliberations, the commission accorded its approval for creation of two seats in all institutions, which are recognised under Section 2(f) and 12B of the UGC Act, for general courses," he said.

Hailing the move, Wahid said the decision will provide an ample opportunity to the students to get quality education in reputed institutions of their choice.

The Vice Chancellor, however, advised the students to directly contact and approach the authorities of respective institutions for securing their admission.
