The UGC has asked universities and colleges across the country to hold lectures, debates and screen films on Swami Vivekananda to mark his 153rd birth anniversary on January 12.
University Grants Commission chairman Ved Prakash in a letter to all vice chancellors said, "Swamiji left an indelible mark in both national and international arena through his teachings which have been a great inspiration for the youth of the country."
He said that Vivekananda had contributed immensely towards the concept of nationalism in colonial India.
Prakash asked universities and colleges affiliated to them to organise events like speeches, lectures, essay writing competitions, debates, screening of documentary films among others on his life and ideas.
