"However, it will not happen immediately. The transformation in the vocational education will be made, say, in the next 10 years," he told reporters here.
B.Voc course would be introduced in about 200 colleges - 100 each in polytechnic and Arts Colleges - from the next academic year, he said, adding many more need-based vocational courses would be introduced gradually.
He said UGC would allocate Rs 25,000 crore to private institutions under Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan from the total of Rs 50,000 crore alloted under 12th plan.
Educational institutions need more accountability to elevate India to greater heights, he said and pointed out that even countries like the US and the UK do not spend as much as India for higher education.
